How to record your screen in Chrome — free, no watermark
You do not need desktop software to record your screen anymore. A Chrome extension can capture a tab, a window, or your entire screen, mix in your microphone and camera, and hand you a clean video file — all without a watermark and without uploading anything you did not choose to.
Install the extension
Add El Ojo from the Chrome Web Store and pin it to your toolbar. It works in Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Arc — anything built on Chromium. There is no account required to record and download.
Pick what to capture
Open the popup and choose a recording source. Each mode suits a different job:
- Tab — records just the active browser tab. Lightest on your machine, and the only mode that captures a cursor trail for smart zoom later.
- Window — records a single application window, even outside the browser.
- Screen — records your entire display, including your OS and other apps.
- Camera only — records your webcam full-frame, for a talking-head intro or outro.
Turn on mic, camera, and highlights
Flip on your microphone to narrate. Enable the camera to drop a draggable bubble on screen — you can move it anywhere and it stays put in the recording. While recording, the highlight tools let you spotlight, circle, draw, and point at things without any post-editing; the marks are captured directly in the video.
Stop, then save it your way
Click stop and you own the file. Download the WebM straight to your machine, upload it to your own Google Drive over the narrowest OAuth scope, or send it to Studio to trim, add captions, and share a hosted link. Nothing leaves your device unless you pick one of the upload options.
Why no watermark matters
Most free recorders stamp a logo on your video or cap you at a few minutes, then push you to a paid plan to remove it.
